Below are works that I am genuinely proud of sharing and. Staying up all night to finish and perfect them was worth it in the end so that all can enjoy.

The Best “Acornball” Team Ever
Dedicated to the best coaches, parents, team, sisters, and best friends in the whole wide world.
On a hill far away in a forest near a steam stood an old pine tree, but it wasn’t just any pine tree. It was the home of a family of chipmunks, the McJuniors family. There was Jess, the mom, Jessica, the auntie, and their twelve beautiful daughters Arina, Kristin, Jessie, Madeline, Melanie, Almarie, Madison, Devon, Claire, Camilla, Kate, and CC.
The McJuniors were a very loving, caring, silly, and athletic family. They loved to play acornball with a net at the floor of the old pine tree. They would play with other chipmunk families that live on the hill with that net. It was built by their dad, Zack, with woven twigs and bark. Their dad was killed during the terrible Palo Alto Tsunami by the Trembling Tremors when he was walking home. It came from the Empire Ocean that is located near the hill. The only survivors on the hill were Jess, Jessica, and her children.
Sometimes, the chipmunks that lived on the hill would organize an acornball tournament for the children. All the girls would participate in the games to win the Acorn Cup and a year supply of acorns and berries.
“Rise and shine, sleepyheads! Time to get up! We’re playing the Munkchip family today,” Jessica sang as she yanked the blanket off the girls, which made them shiver and yawn.
The twelve sisters got up and started to fix themselves for the acornball games. They each took a shower, brushed their hair, brushed their teeth, and dress up in their uniform.
“What color shirt?” questioned Camilla.
“White will be fine,” Jessica replied.
When they finally were done and they got downstairs, they already saw the Munkchip family warming up, stretching, and running around the court.
“Good morning, Mrs. Munkchip! Looking fine today, eh?” Jess politely said as she walked up to her to shake her hand.
“Good morning, Mrs. McJuniors! Good morning, Mrs. Pickles! Nice seeing our rival team again.”
It seemed to be a pretty normal day. The sky was clear and blue, the blue jays were singing, and the sound of acornballs were bouncing on the forest floor. Everything seemed to be the same, but they had no idea everything was about to change. Everything was about to change.
As first acornball game started between the McJuniors family and the Munkchip family, Claire spotted a strange looking cloud. She slowly approached Jess, poked her, then she asked, “Is that a cumulonimbus?”
Jess looked up, which caused everyone to stop and looked up along with her. When the game was put to a halt, the acornball ended up bouncing on poor CC’s head. “Ouch.”
It was the moment Jess was afraid would come back. It was the Palo Alto Tsunami. There was a massive wave coming from the Empire Ocean. Before they knew it, everyone was running around like a maniac. Jess and Jessica looked at each other, and they immediately knew what to do.
Jess and the twelve sisters helped the chipmunks that were panicking get to higher ground. “Try to stay off the ground,” commanded Jess, “and stay indoors as much as possible!”
As Jess and the twelve girls were helping those that were panicking, Jessica went back into the old pine tree and rushed into its hole, which was the storage room. In there, she kept three very special acornballs that were specifically meant for suck up the Palo Alto Tsunami and its companions. They were balls with suction fans that her husband, Nick, invented in memory of his grandfather who died in the hurricane. It was inspired by Jessica’s passion for acornball.
He also died in the Palo Aalto Tsunami as he was driving home. Blurry Vision, a companion of the Palo Alto Tsunami, blurred all of his windows as he was driving home from work. He couldn’t get out because of the flooding. As he was crashing from tree to tree, he unfortunately crashed hard on one pine tree and died.
Jessica was choking up on all the memories about him in her head, but she stayed strong. She brought them back downstairs where Jess and the twelve sisters were waiting for the next instructions.
The Palo Alto Hurricane was inching closer with its dangerous companions, Trembling Tremors and Blurry Vision.
“This is just like practice. Don’t worry!” Jessica shouted to them as the hard winds blew.
Jessica handed Jess a ball and they threw all three acornballs in the air, which Madison, CC, and Madeline passed. Melanie, Almarie, and Jessie set them. Then Claire, Kristin, and Arina spiked the balls into the hurricane, which made most of the hurricane and its companions go away. Then the acornballs suddenly flew back by the horrid winds which Kate, Camilla, and Devon blocked. That finally made the Palo Aalto Tsunami and its companions go away.
That night as Jess and Jessica were tucking the girls into bed, Almarie suddenly blurted out, “I don’t like water anymore.”
A few years passed and the hill was back to normal. Everyone living on the hill helped each other out by building new houses, painting the walls, and throwing away broken bark and branches to the stream that was created a few miles from the hill. Everything was back to normal. All can relax thanks to the terrific twelve for blowing away the terrible Palo Alto Tsunami and its companions for good. Or did they?

Schoology Discussion: How Do You Define Yourself?
Defining oneself is probably one of the most difficult task a human can be given in life. I define myself as a small, smart, and irresponsible little young woman, and I am so proud of who I am. Since I was raise as an only child around adults, I don’t live the life people would call a “typical normal teenager lifestyle.” Despite that, I can say I am the most loved child anyone has ever known. My parents were there for me every step of the way. That is why I act more mature than an average twelve year old, and I know I do. I am a perfectionist and a very “stiff” child. I don’t go out with my friends during the weekends or chill at the mall. Instead, I stay home and do my homework, read, play Candy Crush, and do my extracurricular activities that fill up my schedule. I honestly would rather spend time with people that love me for who I am and learn life lessons from than hang out with people that are forced to like me and teach me gossip and false information. Although I have a heart problem, it doesn't define me or stop me from what I want to do in life. I am and always will be that matured, smart perfectionist that is also a small, irresponsible young woman. I am proud of the way I am. That is how I define myself. Talking to my auntie made me realize there was more of me than I thought there was. She described me as a very loud and talkative little lady. I am a perfectionist and I should “chill” more often. I show off at times, procrastinate, and try too hard. I even have the weirdest laugh that makes me unique. I unconsciously start singing random songs at random times. She told me that I am helpful and supportive to others and I am naturally good with kids. After interviewing my auntie and hearing what she has to say about me, the steps I have to take to merge the “2 people” together are finding my good and bad traits, being conscious of doing more of my good traits than your bad ones, and continue to be the person I am. Remember nothing defines you but only yourself.

School Should Start at a Later Time
“Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” -Ben Franklin
This quote can relate to many adults working in the world. Yet when you’re in your teenage years, this expression wouldn’t really suit you. Although teenagers arrive at school at 7 in the morning, their brains are actually still asleep. Forcing students to come to school is torture. It causes teens to have poor memory, have more errors in school work, form health problems such as sleep deprivation, and have reduced motivation and depression. These are the reasons why I believe school should start at a later time.
Our brains are one of the most important organs in our bodies. Yet we cause them to decrease in size due to stress and lack of sleep. Stress could affect and change brains' long-term memories. Experiments were done on monkeys and rats for this matter. When monkeys had areas of stress that was enlarged, they stayed with the fellow monkeys instead of their mothers. When rats were exposed to chronic stress, their hippocampuses in their brains shrank. The hippocampus is where memories are formed. Imagine the brain of the children today going through this because of lack of sleep from going to school early!
Do you wonder why so many people are dropping out of middle school and high school? About 1.2 million students drop out of high schools annually in the United States. Proven by neurologists, counselors, experts in leadership development, and many more specialists in thinking and the brain, one of the main reasons why students drop out is because of depression. Well, what do you know! Depression is a cause from making students function their brains at an early time. Let us prevent another student from dropping out in our country where high school graduation rates rank 19th in the world by pushing back the start of school at a later time.
School is a place for people to learn and gain their education. How can we have children achieve academically if we do not let them have enough sleep? Yes, early school times give children more time to learn. Yet what is “more time to learn” if none of the students can retain the valuable information taught in school?
Universities, high schools, middle schools, grade schools, and other places for education should understand that students need sleep and energy to pay attention and learn in class. Teens especially should be given a schedule in tune with their sleep and wake patterns for school. This can help the youth generation today reach great achievements in the future and make our world a better place. It all begins with starting school at a later time.

Motivation
I grew up with every drop of love and motivation I could ever ask for. As I grew older, I developed motivation as a very important character in my personality. Yet I had to overcome challenges that caused me to doubt myself even though everyone I knew said that I can. Without self-motivation, I would've never learned how to move on with life and just shake it off.
Being surrounded by three different generations of people caused me to become a very mature child at the age of three. They fed me with hints about what to expect in life through their experiences and other stories about their friends. When I finally became a student, I was overwhelmed and surprised by the environment with people my age. I became more reserved, less aggressive, and dependent. By middle school, I found out that we had to stand on our own feet and speak for ourselves. I would get scared, but I would just motivate myself everyday before school and say, "I can do this!" Those four words taught me how to motivate myself and others.
In Associated Student Body Council, we are given many tasks that seem very difficult to tackle and accomplish. I do my best to lighten the mood by feeding positive energy to the group. I stay cheery and confident until we complete all that we need to finish. Motivation can be spread by sharing the cheery spirit among the council. Cheering others on can boost the mood of everyone and all will work better together.
As the setter of every volleyball team I play for, I lead and motivate the team. Setters are meant to set the game up because they set the ball for hitters to kill and score a point. I always point out to my teammates that they can do anything no matter who we're playing. I help them play better by correcting their mistakes during the game and telling them how they can improve it. When we lose the point, I emphasize to shake it off and make it up with a good pass. Motivation helps when disappointment and frustration strikes the team. I stay as positive as possible to feed the good vibes to my other teammates. Teamwork and motivation is the formula to a good team.

Letter to the Editor:
The Creations of God: Unborn Prodigies
Imperfections are what make individuals perfect. Preventing a child from being born just because he or she is imperfect is absurd and unacceptable. Love every child with all your heart because all are creations of God, our loving Father.
Everyone has flaws, whether they are shown or hidden. Down syndrome is one of the many flaws that can be publicly seen. Yet people who are physically and mentally healthy can have many covert flaws such as the struggle in reading comprehension or solving a math problem. Every individual in this world was given a role to play by God even before each of us was molded in our mother’s womb. You never know if your child will be the next musical prodigy, well-known inventor, the first woman president of the United States, or pope! All children formed by God are different with a unique plan, making each and every one of us special.
To families contemplating whether or not to keep their child, abortion is definitely not the answer. Many solutions can be chosen aside from murdering an innocent life. You are not alone. Relatives and close friends can be trusted with your child until you are matured enough to raise him or her. Families who cannot afford to have and take care of their “imperfect” child or are just unwilling to can take him or her to an orphanage where children are placed in the safe hands of nuns, who care for all children as their own. Otherwise, always be thankful for all you are blessed with. A handful of women all around the world are barren and cannot have a baby.
Yes, the twenty-first century has invented many new advancements in technology and can do many marvelous things. Yet not everything machines state is always accurate. I believe in miracles and that God has a plan in everyone’s lives even before birth. Anything is possible if you believe in our creator who created us all. Continue to have faith for the best and never lose hope.
Each one of us is special both inside and out, for we were created in our Father’s image. Don’t consider someone’s personality just by their cover and imperfections. He or she can actually be the most perfect person you will ever meet. Everyone is beautiful in the eyes of the Man upstairs.
Sincerely,
A Disciple of God

Summer In San Francisco
by Krystal T. and Almarie M. Summer fun In the sun We’ll play more games We’ll have more fun From the sea to my toes From my feet to my nose Summer’s in the air Summer’s everywhere Here in San Francisco |
Let’s sit on the ground Let’s look all around Wind is in the air For summer in San Francisco So cold right now Don’t be so wowed It’s always like this When it’s summer in San Francisco From jazz to hip-hop To lifelong blues Children listen to music When it’s summer in San Francisco Children here in America And all over the world Let’s all shout Horray! For summer in San Francisco September 2012 |
Fragile
Just see if you can be someone like he A boy who has many friends who will stick up for them till the end But once you stop and think the boy who is social and always winks Has darkness in his mind even though he says he’s fine The boy I met across the street is so fragile and so beat The boy who was known to smile who you can sit and talk to for a while The one who is there for you through anything you do Is actually living in a nightmare So go and ask, if you dare |
I did one day
We walked outside where he wanted to lay He closed his eyes and looked away He sighed, then looked at me to say, “I’m so alone I have no where to go. I am depressed, but the opposite is what I show.” A lean in to give him a long, tight hug and he smiled a genuine smile |
I said if he needed company on his massive rug he can call me up on speed dial
But I didn’t see him anymore for he died the day after With blood all over the bathroom floor There was just tears, no laughter I will always remember him grooving to every beat I will always remember that boy across the street September 2014 |

COMMUNITY SERVICE ESSAY: Reflection of the Whole School Year 2013-2014
This year, I learned how to be more generous and thoughtful to others in need. I had such a fun experience meeting new people and learning new things. I learned how to help the community more and have more awareness to those who need help. I also realized that there are many different ways to help. Whether it’s packing food for the homeless or teaching children who need help with their homework, I am helping the community become a better place. If we all work together hand in hand to help those in need, our community will be a beautiful place to live in.
I did my community service at the DeLue Boys and Girls Club this quarter. My responsibility for the first hour of my service was to tutor children from public schools who are in Kindergarten and 1st grade. The last two hours of my community service were to supervise them when they went to eat and played games in the recreational room such as speed-pool ball and table tennis. I found that keeping the children calm and quiet as we walked through the hallways was quite challenging. My favorite part was meeting and getting to know the kids there. I also liked how they all got along and had fun with one another. Three girls that I tutored named Vanessa, Jessica, and Avea were all different, but they were giggling and having fun while they did their homework.
My favorite place where I completed my community service was at the DeLue Boys and Girls Club. It’s my favorite because it was different from where I did my service hours for the first three quarters of the school year, which was at the San Francisco Food Bank. I enjoyed being there and helping the children. It didn’t even seem that I was doing my community service because everyone was enjoying themselves and having fun while doing their homework and playing in the recreation room. It was a blast seeing the kids having fun with smiles on their faces. That is why the Boys and Girls Club is my favorite place where I completed my community service.
Community service is a great way to give back and to be involved in the community. I had so much fun with this experience, and it was a great way to take my mind off school and class work. It was hard and lots of work, but in the end, I gained a feeling of accomplishment and joy because I helped many people in my community. Getting to know and meeting the people in my community was amazing and surprising. Although they are poor and unfortunate, they are all just regular people like us who laugh and have fun. If we all join forces to help our community, we will have a brighter, safer and a more beautiful place to live in.

COMMUNITY SERVICE REFLECTION ESSAY: Geneva Avenue United Methodist Church Experience 2014-2015
Serving at the Geneva Avenue United Methodist Church was an amazing experience. The staff is very welcoming and I was soon a part of their family. Every Wednesday, residents come to receive free goods to be able to prepare a meal every night that week for themselves. Volunteers help pass out food and organize the lines of people. Fruits, vegetables, bread and poultry are prepared and given. On my first day volunteering, I was assigned to count and pass out oranges. I had to give each person a certain amount of oranges from the massive crate they were contained in. This volunteering job taught me how to be friendly to people I considered strangers, how to not over act when seeing and throwing away rotten food, and how to say "no" nicely to people who do no follow the rules or ask for more food than they are given. This activity benefits members of the community because these members depend on food cards to give them a meal to eat everyday since they do not have enough money to buy food from grocery stores. There is always a feeling of love and safety as soon as people walk through the gate, which I adore.

Vocabulary Poster
"Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck I was to create a poster of one of my spelling words for the week, and I chose the word sycamore. The poster had to include the vocabulary word, its dictionary definition, a quotation which features the word, a symbol of the word and an explanation of its relevance, and a one-sentence explanation of how the word has an effect on people's lives. SCHOOL PLAYS
Spanish Folktale Play : Blanca Flor
"Blanca Flor" is like a Spanish version of Snow White.
A very vain queen has a magic mirror who tells her that she is the most beautiful woman in the world. When her daughter, Blanca Flor, becomes older and more beautiful, the magic mirror begins to tell the queen that Blanca Flor is the most beautiful woman in the world. The queen hires a servant named Juan to kill Blanca Flor, but he doesn't. Blanca Flor soon leaves the castle and finds a hut in the forest where a band of thieves lived. The queen discovers that her daughter has not been killed because her magic mirror still states that Blanca Flor is still the most beautiful woman in the world. She then punishes Juan for not following his orders by killing him. Afterwards, she seeks to find her daughter while wearing a disguise of an old woman. Since Blanca Flor didn't recognize her mother under all the disguise, she let the queen into the hut she was hiding in. The queen then gave her a golden necklace as a thank you gift for being kind and giving her a glass of water. Yet that necklace would put a person who wears it to sleep in just a matter of seconds. Blanca Flor wears it and soon falls into a deep sleep.
The thieves see that Blanca Flor is lying on the floor and wouldn't wake up. They keep her in a coffin and watch over her just in case harm comes her way. One rainy day, a prince wandering in the forest sees Blanca Flor and immediately falls in love. He orders his servants to bring her to his castle and leaves a sexton in charge of cleaning the coffin everyday. The sexton, who is also a thief, spots Blanca Flor's golden necklace and decides to steal it. The moment he takes the necklace off her neck, Blanca Flor wakes up and scares the sexton away, causing him to scream.
Soon after, the prince captures the queen and keeps her as prisoner. Blanca Flor and the prince then married and lives happily ever after.

"The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein is a story about giving.
The tree loved a boy and supported him from when he was a little boy until he grew old and frail. It helped him as much as it could to help the boy and give his the necessities he needed and wanted in life. Iy truly and dearly loved the boy. This story taught me that we shouldn't be selfish and help others in times of trouble. All we have to do is love.

ASB Election Speech 2013
President: Karina A.
Vice President: Almarie-Rose M.
Both: Hello and good morning.
K: My name is Karina A. I am currently in 6-West and I am running for president for the ASB Council.
A: My name is Almarie-Rose M. I am also in 6-West and I am running for vice president for the ASB Council.
K: I am always open to others’ ideas, I’m a good listener, and I love to talk and help people. I’m running for president because I want to improve our school image by cleaning up the school’s environment, being proactive with community building campaigns, and hopefully raising funds for a variety of needs for all students. I have a vision that Epiphany’s image will be improved in the eyes of our community.
A: I am a person who motivates people to do their best at everything and to never give up until they succeed. I also am a team player who keeps the team together and lets everyone have a say. I’m running for vice president because I also want to prevent bullying and raise funds in various ways not just for the school but also for charity: children not going to school, pajaro, and many more for people in poverty. I also want to try to include more enjoyable events in the next school year such as field day, carnivals, and spirit days.
K: Another goal we have is to help the students in Epiphany to become stronger with confidence and self-esteem. Insecurity causes people to do things such as:
A: not being themselves, not being open and speaking to others, and hurting others and sometimes themselves.
K: We want to fix that problem by giving advice to the students being bullied and making sure that they have control of their situation.
A: To clean up our school, we can have recycling projects and fundraisers. We can also set up weekend picnics to public cleanups.
K: All of this will help make our neighborhood cleaner.
Both: With your help, together we will make Epiphany a better, cleaner, and safer school. We are asking for your support and votes.
A: Vote for Karina A. for ASB Council President
K: Vote for Almarie-Rose M. for ASB Council President.
Both: Thank you!

Love Local SF Day
Love Local SF Day was a day Epiphany celebrated our beloved city of San Francisco. ASB created this event inspired by the idea from Mr. Sean Bartlett. Mrs. Erin Miranda and I were chosen to be the advisor and manager for the Love Local SF event. We planned out the assigned spots for each class in the "I 'HEART' SF" and created the morning announcement about San Francisco, the city we love. All members of ASB joined forces in chalking out the letters and shapes the morning of the event. Everyone filed into the characters successfully. To top it all off, Mr. Brian Louie took a great pictures of "I 'HEART' SF" with faculty, staff, and all the student body involved. November 2014 |

Science Water Cycle Song (Great America Theme Song)
by: Jasmine H., Diana M., and Almarie M. The water cycle starts / Nu-nu-nu-nu-nu-nu Then we go through the station / Of E-Eevaporation Fro-o-o-m the ocean / Into the clouds above ‘em Next up is condensation / We’re close to our location The sun is important in the water cycle The sun is important in the water cycle The va-apor hardens / I be-e-eg your pardon You see the water pour / O-o-o-on the floor It’s called precipitation / We’re on the last station Now we're finally through / Let's all say Woohoo! The sun is important in the water cycle The sun is important in the water cycle May 2, 2012 |
Science Water Cycle Song (Pricetag)
Evaporation. Condensation. Precipitation. You ready? The water cycle is easy to learn. One you really know the steps. There are three easy steps from evaporation up to precipitation. The very first step is evaporation when the water turns into water vapor. Then in condensation, the air gets cool and the vapor turns back into water. REFRAIN: Everybody look to the left. Everybody look to the right. Can you feel that? (Yeah) We’re playing with water tonight. It’s not about making decisions about people’s salutations. We just wanna learn about the - the water cycle. Ain’t about the, uh, ch-chang-ch-chang. Ain’t about the, yeah, b-bling-b-bling. You don’t have to pay us just to learn the water cycle. Okay. We need to take it back in time. When water made us all unite. And the very next station is pr-precipitation. The water falls down to the ground. The plants and trees get their fill. Then the wa-ater cycle starts a-again. REFRAIN ah - ah - ah - ah - yeah - yeah - o - o - o - o - o - o - the water cycle - ah May 2012 |
